About Me

Personal Profile

I am a very determined, ambitious person and always put 100% into anything I do. I will always strive to be successful and to complete new challenges.

I am a very confident, bubbly and out-going person who is willing to work under pressure whether that is on my own or in a group. I am very hard working and will give my ideas as well as taking them from others. I work to the best of my ability at all times and not afraid of getting negative or positive feedback.

From my own experiences past and present young dancers are training at a very vulnerable time in their lives which gives me confidence in understanding that you should train the whole person, and not just the dancer.

Over the years of studying this art form I have discovered many different desires but my main passion is teaching and this is why I have decided to follow this pathway .I am confident to teach pupils with all different ages and abilities and have been able to adapt my teaching skills in the past to accommodate pupils with different needs such as ADHD. (Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder).I have always been inspired by my own teachers which is why I want to make my teaching career successful and to be able to succeed in giving the same opportunity to other pupils. I have also performed from a young age on stage in many dance shows with the dance school I attended. All of these shows worked with the Mayor's Charity. Performing in front of large audiences gave me the confidence to pursue my dance career which is why I have carried on with my dance studies.

From a very young age I have studied Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Modern and show work. After graduating from Dawn Dawson's School of dance I continued my study at Pendleton College where I studied BTEC National Diploma and A level dance. I am now currently studying a BA (Hons) dance degree at John Moores University, where I have previously taught in a probation centre and schools for my placements.

The modules i have taken at John Moores are:

Performance Project: working as a company for a numerous of weeks, technique creating a peice of dance which is performed to an audience.

Choreography 5: (6 minute piece of contemporary dance) that will be performed to an audience in Sudley Theatre

Dance Professional Practice- This ables us to set up our own website and advertise ourself as a dance artist.

Contexual Issues- Being able to write, discuss and debate about dance history and what goes on in the dance world.

Research Methodology- being able to create a piece of dance using different styles of research to commence the choreographic process.

Teaching and Facilitating: Helps us to be able to use differnt teaching styles and how to adapt to others needs depending what environment you are working in.

Jazz Technique: This is another style of dance we use to enhance our dance ability.

Experience & Qualifications

General Experience

Teaching and Facilitating Experience

2009-2010

Griffins Society- Working in a probation centre challenged me as to how I would deal with certain situations in a environment i was not familar with.

"The Griffins Society researches and promotes effective practice in working with women who are in prison or subject to criminal justice interventions in the community."

Teaching Assessment Weighting 50% Mark: 69%

Final Mark 63% comments:

"Well done Lauren this is a really good mark. I spoke I spoke with the two ladies who observed your session and they were completely in praise of all your efforts, commitment to the group and energy. They discussed at length how you got individuals up and about moving or even observing the activities you were exploring. They said you were always well organised and well prepared. They did however mention an area for you to focus on is confidence; they did mention this was a very challenging group. Well done Lauren this sounds like it has been an incredible experience."

2008-2009

St Julies High School- Working with young students from the age of 12-14 proved to be challenging yet succesfull as this is when the students often became difficult to teach because they were somewhere they didnt want to be. When the lessons became more creative they all started to participate and were abe to recognise how i worked as a teacher.

2007-2008

Dawn Dawsons Academy- Working in my old dance school for my work experience placement helped me to be able to be more confident when working with other students.

Other Information

Interests & Hobbies

To succeed in the same profession in the next two years I plan to take a year out of education and work voluntary at Harrop Fold School and other schools that are willing to take me on to help me have a more understanding of the teaching sector so that I can get more teaching experience so that in the following year I will hopefully be able to get a place on a GTP placement or a place to do a PGCE so that I am able to teach in high schools or further education. I want to start off as a freelance dance teacher in schools setting up my own after school and holiday clubs.

In the year I take out of education I also plan to get my qualifications as an aerobics instructor and life guard as this is something I have wanted to do to help make my career a more successful one. I also feel that being a qualified life guard will help me to progress further, especially when working in schools. I will also attend more dance and fitness classes in my free time not only to help me keep my fitness level up but to also help me be more confident when working out of my comfort zone.
