I have been a prominent part of the choir, regularly representing the school over the last 12 years. We regularly sing at many events, such as the Christmas services, school open days, Highgate nursing home and the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead.

I have taken singing lessons since 2006, achieving Grade 8 in 2010 with merit. I play the piano competently, working towards Grade 5. I won the Sonneborn prize for singing earlier this year, giving me a year of free singing lessons.

We hold and annual joint choral and orchestral concert between ourselves and Highgate school at Southwark Cathedral, showcasing our prodigious choral and orchestral talent to magnificent effect. This year’s concert featured, quite fittingly, much of the music of two composers whose bicentenary year is being commemorated in 2009; Mendelssohn’s Overture – The Hebrides, Mendelssohn being born in 1809, and Haydn’s Nelson Mass, Haydn passing away in 1809. This is regularly a highly beneficial, enjoyable and memorable experience allowing me a true insight into how spectacular and inspiring larger choral performances can be.

Another musical art form I am particularly interested in is Jazz and I recently performed a solo at the annual Jazz evening, whereby I sang y own rendition of ‘Nature Boy’ alongside a professional Jazz quartet, originally written by Nat King Cole. What I love about Jazz is that it is all about precise and accurate timing to make the piece sound effortless. As a singer, you get to lead the band, whilst simultaneously working with them to produce a unique and varied performance each of which tells its own story.

I was one of the few chosen in the school to participate in the choral tour to Venice.
