About Me
Drama, drama, drama! A word that has been a big part of my life and hopefully will be a big
part of my future. From an early age I have always been determined to work in the film
industry as an Actor or Director as I believe I have something very unique when it comes to
producing a piece of drama. Throughout my life I have always been told that it's a one in a
million chance for a young man like me to succeed in the film industry, however I have always
answered with the reply "I am that one in the million", as I know that I have the
determination and the passion to achieve my goal.
I am currently studying Drama, English Literature and Moving Image at A-level, three subjects
that I believe allow me to develop my understanding of Drama and push me to express my talents
on stage as well as in the classroom. Last year my teacher awarded me full marks for my
devised performance when I took on the leading role of Ambrose Fogarty in Martin Lynch's play.
After my performance my drama teacher said "Your portrayal of Ambrose brought the audience to
tears, you have something really special Jonny, don't let it go to waste." I also received
high grades for English Literature and Moving Image at AS-level. English has allowed me adapt
to the role of a scriptwriter. In Moving Image I enjoy exploring the film industry from a
director's point of view. This allows me to merge both my directing and acting abilities.
From the age of eleven I have taken part in many different drama productions giving me
experience in the theatre business. I have never been more passionate about anything in my
life. When I am on the stage, I mentally fall into my own world and for a moment become the
character that I portray. I believe that the courses I have chosen will allow me to develop
these unique talents that are vital for both the theatre and film industry. I also hope my
courses can open up many opportunities for my future in and encourage me to have a career in
drama as I have always wanted. I hope my study at university could also open up a path in
teaching as a career. I believe that drama can improve the skills needed to become a role
model for young children and give me the knowledge to teach others. In the last year I took on
a weeks work experience at Our Lady of Lourdes primary school where I taught a primary seven
class. I completed my Level Two Certificate with the Northern Ireland Children's Enterprise, a
volunteer organisation that promotes peace, reconciliation and understanding between the
communities of Northern Ireland. This course give me a feeling of how society works and I was
able to use this knowledge in a number of cross-community plays I took part in.
I believe my personality suits the drama courses that I have chosen as throughout my life I
have always worked well in a team which is clearly very important when working with a cast. I
have been part of many teams in my lifetime. From an early age I played both football and
hurling for my club and college. I captained my club soccer team at the age of twelve and
again at the age of sixteen. I completed my bronze Duke of Edinburgh award last year, showing
I can clearly work with a team to complete a difficult task. This experience helped me develop
my communication skills. At times I do lack self-confidence but I hope the courses I have
chosen can help me increase my confidence as I know confidence plays a vital role on stage for
an actor. I have a strong interest in film making and script writing. I have been working on
many short films over the past year and now I am creating a film script which I hope to use in
the future.
I was awarded "Best Actor at GCSE level" in St. Malachy's College. As the Hollywood star
Ciaran Hinds was giving me the award he turned and whispered in my ear "Jonathan Moran, that's
a Hollywood name" and from that day I have never wanted anything more than to be an actor and
one day have my name in lights.
