About Me
I never had an imaginary friend when I was a child; instead I had an imaginary audience to whom I often rehearsed scenarios and adventures. From playing the heroic buccaneer hunting treasure to being a villainous rogue plotting dastardly deeds, I’ve always enjoyed the roleplaying involved with acting. Throughout school I have frequently jumped into character, entertaining my friends with impromptu performances, which has rewarded me with many laughs. I take a great deal of inspiration from actors such as Charlie Chaplin who said “A day without laughter is a day wasted”.
During school I have been in numerous amateur productions; once given a role I would begin exploring the depths of that character, to the point where it felt almost as if I was experiencing the world vicariously through them. I remember one of my first shows when I was in year five, a production of the pied piper; I had a small role as one of the rats. It was great fun sneering at the audience and pretending to find them disgusting and seeing the audience smile and laugh at the production. The moment of limelight was addictive and I developed a strong passion for theatre. I remember in my next school, in year 8, I was very pleased to be given the starring role in an amateur production of Oliver Twist. I had original auditioned for the part of Dodger but was surprised and delighted when I found out. The school had a proper stage with lighting and professional sets. The atmosphere of the theatre was awe inspiring, the preparation and the interactions between cast and crew behind stage and best of all was the anticipation of showing the audience everything we had rehearsed.
Since then I have joined the Bath Operatic and Dramatic Society and joined them in a production of The Mikado on the stage of the Theatre Royal in Bath. The experience was fantastic and because of it I am now looking for a career in the acting and film industry.
