About Me
Acting and the arts to me is amazing, the feeling of performing on stage is a feeling that is unlike any other. The preparation and the rehearsal causes so much anticipation and excitement of how the final result is going to turn out. I was first introduced to performing in primary school when I was cast as the Narrator in Joseph and His Technicolour Dream Coat at the age of 9. This experience made me realise that I had so much passion for acting and singing and gave me the confidence to perform in front of people. It also made me realise I could collaborate very easily with others. While developing my acting skills I have also been developing my singing voice, I have received a grade 6 award in singing. I have been fortunate enough to have a significant amount of experience in the arts. Last year I played the role of Puck in 'The Fairy Queen'. 'The Fairy Queen' is Purcell's Fairy Queen Opera combined with William Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Nights Dream' which was a challenging role on both the dramatic and music side.
In recent years I have been active in my local amateur dramatic society. I have been involved in productions of Oklahoma, Brigadoon, South Pacific and the pantomimes Old King Cole and Aladdin. I was given the principle role of princess in our pantomime version of Jack and The Beanstalk. I have also been lucky enough to sing in a local choir which specialises in early music, I was cast as ' the drunken sailor' in Dido and Aneas which our choir performed in Rome. During my time at high school I was cast as 'Elizabeth of York' in the play The Wardrobe and I gained experience of performing in a professional theatre as we performed in The Lowry theatre as part of National Connections week. At College I am a member of the music society, I have played Grandma Addams in our production of Addams Family the Musical and have co directed our college’s musical production of The Producers.
I also enjoy going to the theatre and seeing live music. When I was younger I played rugby league for my local rugby club, I still enjoy going to watch Salford Red Devils with my dad and the family. In the rest of my spare time I love to spend time with my friends and do photography.
Finally my view of the arts and acting in general has been influenced by my participation in my local amateur dramatic society where local people get together and perform. I very much like the idea proposed in the program notes 'The Bedbug' by the Avant Garde Russian poet Mayakovski who wrote "Make art from all for all". From these influences I believe that the arts should be for everyone from any background. I think that performing should give
people pleasure and enjoyment but also to encourage people to look at the world they live in, to look at feelings, morals and political ideas.
