Relevant Skills

Over the last 15 years I have been more actively involved in events that have had a direct link to charities. It gives me a greater sense of achievement when an event that I have been involved, raises the profile of the charity concerned as well as much needed additional funding.
I have created some spectacular events and help raise over £1m from a simple awards dinner to major sporting events such as The Princes Trust Challenge Trophy which incorporated four separate sporting challenges for two teams of celebrity/sporting personalities. A cricket match in front of 1500 spectators at Durham County Ground to a private Clay Pigeon Shoot at Mitford Hall in Northumberland. The golf event pitted the same two teams against each other at Slaley Hall Golf & Country Club in Northumberland with the football match being held at the ground of Newcastle United Football Club in front of 20,000 spectators. The challenge raised over £250,000. The whole process was staged over three months, which was an enormous feat in itself.
The Tom May Cycle Challenge was born after a conversation at the Challenge Trophy with Tom May who played for the Newcastle Falcons Rugby Team. We decided that he would ride a cycle to every Rugby League ground in the country and finish at Twickenham in aid of Cash 4 Kids. I sought sponsorship of £20k and for every item required from bicycles, support vehicles, hotels to energy drinks. I handled all logistics and PR. £30k was raised.
The Ant & Dec Celebrity Golf event is held every May and is private. I played at the event in 2006/07 and was asked to handle the event ongoing. We switched venues and raised its profile with more celebrities wishing to be involved. The charity was a youth village & hostel, providing shelter for young people from all over the world . This is the only event Ant & Dec get involved in personally which creates a great deal of interest from sponsors and teams wishing to take part. The event regularly raises over £30k. I hosted the event as MC in 2009.
Since 2007 I have been actively involved in the Music Industry and Event sector. I created ‘Music Means Life 2008’ which was a platform for young talented musicians giving them the opportunity of getting on the industry ladder. The event was seen as the most successful talent event of all time in the North East and created artists such as Joe McElderry (X Factor 2009) and Karen Harding (Eurovision 2010). The press attention was unprecedented and raised the profile of the chosen charity ‘Teenage Cancer Trust’.
I have been instrumental in gaining an enormous amount of contacts in the Music, TV & Sporting arenas which has greatly assisted in ensuring all my events have been well supported. I have gained a greater understanding of taking a project from inception to its conclusion and all that entails within the process. From a beauty pageant to a large scale music festival, I have gained an enormous amount of experience and wish to use this to help a worthy cause which requires a huge amount of support and awareness. I believe I have the skill set to succeed in this role and would relish the opportunity of meeting to discuss my experience in more detail.
