Singers required for The Withered Arm at Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival at the Riverside Studios this summer. The Withered Arm is a new musical adaptation of the Thomas Hardy short story created collaboratively between composer Jenny Gould, librettist Rachel Barnett and director Joanna Turner. Telling the exciting spooky story through music and drama, this innovative piece is tonal, highly dramatic and sits somewhere between music theatre (in the most general sense of the term) and opera. The Hardy story can be read online.

After receiving Arts Council funding for our Research & Development period in September 2010 with additional support from The Hardy Society and Opera North, we have now been asked to perform the next stage of the piece at Tête à Tête in August 2011. This will be a midstage development with the first act fully staged and key pieces sung from the second act, with the aim to garner creative, practical and financial support to enable us to realise a funded full production in 2012.

Tenor – Son and Narrator – playing age late teens/20s.
Baritone – Farmer Lodge and Narrator – playing age 30s/40s.

Must have excellent clarity in singing English.

Audition dates: Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July (recalls 16th and 17th July).
Rehearsal dates: Monday 1st – Friday 5th August (rehearsal space provided by the National Theatre)
Performance dates: Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th August at Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival at the Riverside Studios.

This is an unpaid opportunity for all involved but will be an exciting experience providing excellent exposure, CV credit and networking opportunities.

To apply please send a CV, headshot and voicereel to thewitheredarm@gmail.com.
