Details:

We are looking for a supporting actor, the name is Shireef. I have written the story summary below.

Hydro is an African bus driver who lives in an unstable one bedroom flat. His living space expresses his internal conflict of being a black intellectual and a black bus driver in 1950’s Britain. We hear a gunshot shortly before he arrives on a rainy afternoon to his flat, dripping with water, lights on and the TV blaring out. He hears peculiar noises erupting from outside his flat, which accompany the frequent power cuts. He drinks to drown his sorrows after a tormenting day at work and salvages a news article from a wet news paper. The article states the break of Suez crisis, and hangs it up in his shrine to dry. The power comes back on and the TV is broadcasting news real, with details of Britain’s ground invasion in Egypt, it lasts for a less than minute until the power cuts again. Hydro receives a visit from a stranger who asks for shelter in his flat.

Hydro refuses , but lets him in, after he hears the mysterious noise again. Hydro is puzzled by the Stanger’s visit, but also with the strange noise that has invaded his afternoon. The stranger ( Shireef ) is tired and weary, he doesn’t reveal where he is from to Hydro and asks him to guess. Hydro is drunk and does not want to play guessing games with the stranger. The two continue to have a strange conversation in which they discuss the source of the mysterious noise, leading them to having a debate on the value of human consciousness. As the debate heats up ,HYDRO realises that Shireef is Egyptian, and that he probably hasn’t heard the news.

HYDRO boils the water to make some tea, as he thinks of how to approach Shireef with the news of the british aggression to his home. Shireef seems more tired and is silently holding his waist in pain. The power comes back on and the TV is broadcasting the prime minster speech. He lists exucses to which he has went to war with Egypt, Shireef is in a state and does understand. Hydro shows Shireef the article and Shireef starts to cry in pain. He revals his hand to HYDRO, all drenched in blood. Hydro finds out that he was shot at his waist and helps him to the sink. He tries to stop the bleeding but there is no use. Shireef recites a poem, expressing this moment of displacement.

We will be auditioning actors on Monday 8th February at 6pm and Tuesday 9th February at 6pm. I will need the names of actors by Sunday noon to pass the names to the reception so the actors can access the building. Please call me for any further questions.

My number is 07414700984.

Regards,

Shawn.
