Audition Lines:
George Kenner: “The sinking of ‘The Lusitania’ was a shock to all Germans; everywhere one could heard the cry, ‘Intern them all!’, and German shops were stoned. I quickly packed my things, gathered my friends, and celebrated painting.”
RH Sauter: In the evening we all sit about the tables and by degrees each has, so to speak, become associated with some particular place. Table one is reserved for readers. At the end of table three you can be sure of finding a game of cards in progress.
Paul Portheim: “It is not the men of bad character or morals you begin to hate but the men who draw their soup through their teeth, clean their ears with their fingers at dinner, hiccough unavoidably when they get up from their meal”
Paul Stoffa: “It was pathetic to watch the painful excitement of the men whose visitors were due that afternoon: they were a prey to subdued suspense all the morning and as soon as the mid-day meal was over, they started their preparations, each man desperately anxious to look his best.”
Benny Cseh: “I was very much disappointed with your visit. Not with you, my dear, but with the time, as I did not know how to divide that 15 minutes between you and Ilona, poor little mite. I have been told she was crying for me when you left.”
Richard Schramm: “My dear little wife, Take many thanks for all you brought me and your dear visit. Sorry I startled you dear one by passing out, but it is nothing so don’t worry about it, little woman.”
