Character Description

ASMA is a Somali woman aged 26. She is pretty new in the UK, and has just moved into the flat between Mrs Begum and GULDAN. She’s excited – her first home in England – and full of the optimism of life. She’s bubbly and outgoing, and just glad to be here where she thinks her kids will have a better chance in life. She’s left dark stuff and not much family behind, and wants to get on and be useful in society. She and her husband are both reasonably well-educated in Somalia, with a little bit of English (her less than him), and he works as a porter in a hospital.
