Details:
Never Swat A Fly is a 28 minute comedy, though it is hoped to be the first in a series. It is character driven and revolves around Una. She is kind hearted and doesn’t mean any harm but she seems to cause mayhem wherever she goes. The trouble with Una is she doesn’t listen but that doesn’t stop her from jumping into every situation. It’s always at full throttle and she never stops to think whether something makes sense or not.
There are five main characters who all interact well and have good chemistry. For Una and Becca, that chemistry is sparked by their need to get the better of each other. They would passionately argue they are polar opposites, though they are more alike than they would care to admit. Dee would argue she is sensible and grounded, yet she allows herself to be put into a situation she is uneasy with, just because Una is such a strong personality. Alan is a very good friend to Una. He tolerates her quirky outbursts because he loves her, though exactly why he does is a complete mystery to his friend, Karl. Although Karl loves a pretty woman he doesn’t appreciate the quirkiness of Una. He is a confirmed bachelor and happily ogles pretty women whenever he gets the chance.
The plot is centred around Una. Dee has been jilted by her husband and Una makes it her mission to help Dee get him back. Of course, with Una, nothing is ever that simple. The film features a good contrast in characters, a sub-plot and plenty of laughs.
Alan: Slightly overweight, 5'7 or taller. Alan is dependable and kind hearted. He is in love with Una but she is oblivious. He is a true friend and puts friendship above his own feelings.
Karl: A bit of a love rat. He is fun to be around but has an eye for the ladies. Although there is no nudity, there is a scene where Karl has his trousers down around his ankles.
All applicants must be available on Sunday 7th, Monday 8th, and Tuesday 9th September for filming in Epworth (DN9). Although the roles are unpaid, there will be an allowance of £20 per day (excluding auditions) to help towards travel costs. You will also be supplied with a copy of the final cut (either on DVD or as an HD download) for you to use in part (though not in whole) for showreel purposes.
