The Synopsis:

England, 1865. A small horse drawn cart rushes through heavy rain. Lightning flashes, thunder growls.

In the parlour of a small country house MARY (45, nicely middle class) stares out the window, anxious.

There is a knock at the front door. Mary rushes out.

Mary's MAID (20s) holds the door open.

VICTORIA (45, a genteel, well dressed woman) enters, clutching a cloak tight about her. She is soaking wet and freezing cold.

Mary is aghast at Victoria's condition. She orders the driver to take Victoria's bags up to a bedroom, and the maid to run a hot bath. She tells Victoria that she needs to get out of her wet clothes and have a hot bath.

Upstairs, Mary helps Victoria undress, she is soaked through to her underwear. Mary leads Victoria into the bathroom where Victoria eases herself into the hot water. They make small talk about Victoria's journey, the weather, but Mary cannot resist desirous glances at Victoria' body, catching herself and looking away embarrassed, but she keeps turning back to look.

The next morning, Victoria is in bed. Mary stands over her, looking concerned. A DOCTOR examines Victoria. He tells the ladies that Victoria has the 'flu, she needs rest and to be kept warm, and that Mary should call him again if Victoria's fever hasn't broken in two days.
Later, Victoria lies shivering in bed. The bed is piled with blankets; a fire burns hot in the grate. Mary bathes her forehead with cold water, gently and lovingly.

Victoria reminds Mary of a time when they were young and Mary had been ill. Mary remembers Victoria would get in bed with her to keep her warm. They are quiet for a moment, remembering. Mary suddenly announces that Victoria needs to eat. She rings a bell and the maid enters bringing soup.

Mary feeds Victoria, who is too weak to life the spoon.
When the soup is finished Victoria lays back. Mary gently caresses her forehead as Victoria falls asleep.

Later, the maid enters to check on them. Mary is asleep in a chair by the bed. The ladies hold hands like lovers, both smiling in their sleep. The maid places a blanket around Mary's shoulders and leaves quietly.

The next morning Victoria wakes, brighter. As she moves, she realises she is holding Mary's hand, but doesn't release it.

When Mary wakes, she suggest Victoria have some food in bed. Victoria says she feels strong enough to get up, for a bit at least.

In the morning room, still in their night gowns, wrapped in dressing gowns, they wait as the maid brings them tea and some food.

As Mary and Victoria eat, they exchange gossip. Their body language betrays their mutual affection. They draw closer then suddenly pull apart, realising how physically close they have become.

Victoria comments on the quality of the tea. Again, as they discuss this, they draw closer only to pull apart when they realise how close they have become.

They start to discuss their friendship. Mary comments how beautiful Victoria is; how she has always thought so. They draw closer again. They seem about to kiss, but the maid interrupts them.
Victoria has been ill, today is the first day she has been out of bed and should lie down again to rest.

The Maid ushers Victoria out of the room, leaving Mary alone and heartbroken.
Mary follows, to tuck Victoria in. She puts her hand on Victoria's head to feel her temperature. The maid suggests the 'kiss test'. Mary kisses Victoria's forehead, just to check temperature.

She kisses Victoria again, gently, then leaves.

This is a expenses paid project at the moment but we will be doing a Kickstarter/Indigogo with the aim of getting a budget to pay you at least minimum wage (possibly more depending on how successful it is.) This is not guarantee though.

BUT we will at least guarantee that you will get a film at the end, you will get fed, your travel expenses will be paid for and that the short will be entered into various festivals.

We are only looking for cast that are based in Cardiff and the surrounding areas (Swansea and Bristol being the furtherest we would consider.)

Our shoot dates have not been set yet but we'll be able to discuss that more with you during the audition along with the project as a whole.

Auditions will take place through Skype or in person at the Atrium in Cardiff.

Auditions will be Saturday and Sunday the 2nd and 3rd of December. We are able to audition you Friday or Monday if that's more doable. Please tell us your preferred dates and times. Also state which character you are applying for. Are you applying for the maid, Lady Mary or Victoria.
