Synopsis
'Aftermath' is set in modern England facing the repercussions of war. The film follows the story of Kurtis, an ex-soldier suffering from PTSD. This manifests itself in violent flashbacks caused by severe guilt from leaving his friend behind during combat. He struggles to adapt to civilian life and feels alone. All he has ever been trained for is combat. Catherine, his girlfriend, works hard to support Kurtis but sometimes this isn't enough. She has sacrificed a lot for him but in the end he has to face what he is running from.

Kurtis
Kurtis is an ex-soldier for the Royal Marines, suffering from severe PTSD. He struggles to accept the guilt he feels for losing his friend in combat and feels very alone. His background is mainly military, and is disjointed to civilian life. He is not trained to deal with his PTSD and has social anxiety as a result. This can cause him to have panic attacks and act out aggressively. He needs self-acceptance. He finds it hard to talk about his problems, and feels alone with his problems.

Catherine
A clever woman, graduated with a fine art degree, an aspiring artist, but in the meantime, works part time as a waitress. A kind and down to earth person who loves Kurtis, will do anything for him, and is the only person he confides in. She is aware of his PTSD and does what she can to help, but knows there's only so much she can do. There are some questions she knows not to ask him about his past. She has a strong control over her life which contrasts with her boyfriend's life. Her life is concrete, for now, but if she loses anything, then her life will all come crushing down.
