Job Specifics:
Details:
Set on a farm deep in the Welsh countryside in the late 1800's, a couple (Rhodri and Eira) have recently taken in a baby. When a drifter (Iolo) arrives on the farm offering his labour he takes a sinister interest in controlling the lives of the couple and their child. This production is just a single scene from the full script to encourage financial backing for the full film. In this scene Iolo and Eira have a tense confrontation. The plan is to begin production on this after the Covid-19 lockdown has ended.
The Roles:
Iolo (Male) - Iolo was born in Wales but raised in an abusive home in town on the Welsh/English border. As such he doesn't speak a word of Welsh, a fact which he greatly resents. He has spent years drifting from place to place staying only as long as his welcome lasts. He has few morals and enjoys manipulating and forcing his will upon others, as he does after arriving on Rhodri and Eira's farm where he quickly befriends Rhodri and takes a sexual interest in Eira. His true motives aren't clear and may not even truly be known to himself. His age is hard to place. He has a wiry but athletic physique, although he moves with the physicality of a larger man. He is charismatic and full of smiles but can quickly become threatening when he doesn't get his way. He speaks with a west country/welsh border accent.
Eira (Female) - Eira was born into a wealthy family but now lives in near poverty with her partner Rhodri on his failing farm. Against Eira's wishes Rhodri takes in an unwanted baby in exchange for money, forcing Eira to care for it. When Iolo arrives she immediately senses that he means them harm but Rhodri will not hear of it as he is manipulated by Iolo. Iolo takes a sexual interest in Eira and she fears that he may try to force himself on her. She also has a cold and manipulative side, particularly when it comes to Rhodri who she frequently berates for his poor financial decisions. She longs for a time before they adopted the baby, who she resents having to care for. Please note that the performer must be a Welsh language speaker.
