Details:

'Cassiopeia' is drama short film about two lovers that meet again after not having seen each other for two years.

A young man and woman meet again after not having seen each other for two years. Their meeting is more than a single encounter: they finally find a connection. This short fiction explores a moment of surrender: an instance when a man, after many years of struggling alone, finds eternity in the other person.

The film will be shot in Edinburgh on two different locations: in a forest and in an apartment. Principal photography will take three days. The crew consists of Film students at Edinburgh College of Art and Edinburgh Napier University. The film will be shot on 16mm.

Cassiopeia will be financed through crowdfunding. The campaign will be launched in March 2015. It is our goal to create this movie in a sustainable way and we will adhere the rules of ‘green filmmaking’ to realise this. It is our intent to send it to film festivals throughout the world after it’s completion.

Role 1: Oren (male, 28)

Oren is handsome, though he is not a perfectly looking model. He is around 28. He has always been alone, has never been in a serious or deep relationship, although he has always been looking for someone in whom he can find eternity, someone to love with all his existence. He is mostly strict to himself. He experienced the closeness of death at the age of 21: this shaped his approach to people and the world: he closed himself. He has always been trying to reach higher. He is a young architect, working at his father’s company, designing a building that can be a shelter from time, where time no longer affects the livings. He met Nadia when he was 22, and fell in love like never before: he found a connection to eternity in her. At that time, their relationship was short and uneven, as the girl couldn’t return his feelings (she just broke up from a long relationship), and they agreed to say goodbye for a while. He has been waiting for her, seemingly wasting his life alone, having two short and superficial relationships during the two years when they haven’t met.

Role 2: Nadia (female, 28)

Nadia (her name means ‘water nymph’) is sensitive and intelligent, with a very good practical sense. She is around 28, has long hair and a fragile body. She is a young painter currently working as an assistant in a fancy PR company (she doesn’t really love the job, but for now she accepts it since it gives her independence). She still paints mainly in her spare time, mostly with watercolours. She loves to observe rivers and streams and paint them - her favourite artist is Renoir. She is kind with others, has a special mask that hides her inner fragility. Her whole existence holds a deep secret that only Oren is able to understand: her eyes hide a full spectrum of secrets and mysteries. She lives in a studio flat, alone for a while, after breaking up from a short relationship a few months before. She has always liked Oren, she felt connected to him, but she claimed that she couldn’t fall in love, she didn’t know how, she had lost her feelings after a previous relationship which lasted 5 years. Once she knew many constellations and stars, but recently she forgot to look up the sky.
