The film will be a short psychological drama, with vague influences from the surrealist movement, but more grounded and linear. It approaches the ways people respond to losing a loved one and the personal journey they take in order to still feel connected to them.
The story starts with addressing the main characters struggling relationship with his father. The father has a consuming fixation towards Elvis Presley, and he is desperate to push this onto his son in the hope of giving him the same joy which it gives him. However, the sons minor anxieties and his pattern of failing preoccupy all of his thoughts and destroy his motivation to build any meaningful relationships. The father dies at the start of the story, and the sons grief overwhelms him. He becomes fixated on finding a way to feel closer to him, and whilst listening to Elvis, his mental state breaks down to him becoming delusional and believing he is Elvis Presley. The story explores the journey he takes in order to finally receive gratification and feel as though he has made his father proud.
Although the story is hard to grasp through such a short description, we believe this is a very exciting project which looks into semiotics, subconscious connections and is very focused on sound design. It is a feel good story, involving some complex and emotional challenges, with humour also incorporated.
Although we cannot pay you, we are more than willing to help towards expenses. The film will be entered into international competitions and will be screened, giving you promotion and experience in a challenging role.
Myself and my team have worked together on several productions before and we are vert fast workers who like to get the job done effectively.
We are looking to shoot in Blackpool in September 2014, playing upon the iconography of Las Vegas in contrast to the reality of Blackpool, and we will be holding auditions in Hinckley in June/July. However, if you are closer to Blackpool we will be visiting several more times before filming and can arrange interviews there.

THREE ROLES TO APPLY FOR:

The Son (Aaron)
As this is the lead role, we are looking for someone with enthusiasm and willingness to explore a character. The role includes aspects of minor mental illness and delusions, humour, and to be both introverted and extroverted in different scenes. Physically, we would prefer a person with dark hair which can be combed back, and an average body type and height. Must speak fluent English - would be great if you could do a good Elvis impression too!

Father
The father is a very friendly, loving character, and wants to support his son and give him the happiness he feels he deserves. This role is challenging as the father dies after the first scene, which is possibly the most important scene of the film, however he is in more scenes as these are reflective which allows more character exploration towards Elvis fixation. Will also be in final scene. Needs to be likeable, no specific physical requirements. Must speak fluent English.

Friend
This role is for the long term best friend of Aaron. In several scenes and is essential for character development. Very important role. The best friend is a realist, and brings out different sides to Aaron. The character is quite charismatic and cool. No specific physical requirements. Must speak fluent English.
