Whilst an unspoken role, Peder’s father is nonetheless a huge and dominating presence around the house. He is loud, drunk and aggressive but Peder is kept away from this as much as possible. He returns home late and volatile which puts immense strain on the family home. He has a deep mis- trust off everything around him and is constantly threatened which leads to increasingly aggressive acts of violence. To Peder, even though he may not see what really goes on between his father and mother, his father is a dark physical presence that sits over the family who he rarely sees but often hears.
