Anna Girvan is a freelance theatre director based in Bristol. She graduated from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 2010 with an MA in Directing. She has worked for many venues and companies across the South West and London including the Tobacco Factory, Bristol Old Vic, Trafalgar Studios, Ustinov, Roughhouse Theatre, Darkstuff Productions, Alma Tavern, Wrtiers’ Forum and the Wardrobe Theatre.

We are looking for a cast of five enthusiastic and creative individuals who enjoy working together to create fresh ways of telling well-known stories in unusual and exciting environments. There are no age, gender or ethnicity restrictions on casting as we want the piece to come from the actors we work with. It will be an entirely ensemble creation.

The only (very loose casting) is possibly,

Ishmael – the storyteller

Ahab – a 58 year old man of the sea and seeker of Moby Dick

Queequog – a 6ft harpooner of African decent

Starbuck/Captain Boomer – A shipmate and a captain of another ship

Stubbs/Pip – Cheery shipmates

These are descriptions given by the book and we are open to all interpretations and playing with casting so nothing is set but it is useful to know that there is something for all age, gender and ethnicity.

Open Auditions to take place 4th and 5th February between 10am-6pm.

The auditions do not require prepared speeches. All we request is for the auditionees to tell us about their first memory of seeing a giant animal (a whale would be good but any animal will do). This could be a fictional or true story, a poem, song, a piece from a play, a joke, a piece of mime, dance, anything! Bring an object if you like or a book, anything you think you find interesting and think we would too. We may ask you to do a little improvisation as well.

Rehearsal process over four weeks but not full time. Mostly daytime rehearsals and possibly some evening and weekends. Very flexible.

Rehearsals 5th March – 2nd April in venues across Bristol

Performance in evenings on

Tues 3rd – Thurs 5th, Sun 8th – Thurs 12th and Sun 15th- Thurs 19th April

Please email your CV to us with the dates and times you are available for an audition and we will get back to you with your time and venue.
