Details:

Karaoke is a short psychological horror film.

A woman in her late 20s comes home from a dreary day at work to find herself in a nightmare version of her flat. In one of the rooms she meets her doppelgänger. She starts up in bed, as if she’s been dreaming, goes into another room and sees her doppelgänger again. She escapes, but in each room she runs to the same phantom appears. She runs back and forth through doorways and shadows until finally she is trapped in a corridor. From all sides a distorted version of herself appears, as well as a distorted version of her boyfriend. Four doppelgängers surround her, laughing into her face, until she disintegrates in a spasm of flashing lights.

Vanessa
Vanessa is a failed musician who works in an office. She has cultivated a vintage pose to hide behind. The actress will effectively have four roles: Vanessa and her three doppelgängers. As the actress will need to create variations on the same themes we’re looking for someone with a versatile range – tragedy, comedy, horror – capable of switching from fear to hope then to grief and fleeting insight. The role has a lot of room for invention and experiment and should be creatively very exciting.

Height and build are less important than the ability to play multiple roles.
Age range: 25 -35.

Josh
Vanessa’s boyfriend. At first Vanessa believes he can help her but realises that he too is a doppelgänger. Though Josh has less screen time than Vanessa he nevertheless goes through a transformation, from potential saviour to torturer. The actor will need to be able to switch credibly between tenderness and malice.

Tall, slim build.
Age range: 25 -35.

Dialogue is minimal so both actors should be adept at conveying emotion and states of mind through gestures and facial expressions. The tone of the film is dark with touches of humour, so in both cases the actors will need comic timing as well as a sense of pathos.
