'IN ABSENCE OF SILVER LININGS'
Premise: You are what you love.
Logline: A young woman’s struggle with pursuing her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina in a world which countlessly does nothing but diminish these dreams.
Synopsis: Ellie Dawson (24), is auditioning for her ‘big break’ role in a ballet. Despite having successful past auditions, she finds herself extremely anxious and nervous for the audition. Just before she goes onto the stage, her mind is flooded with negative memories of her unsupportive parents, and remembers everything she’s had to go to get where she is today. The audition starts well, but the memories take over and she falls to the ground, and consequently ruins the entire thing. That’s it, in that moment we enter reality, and Ellie is a trained accountant and is on a zoom call with a client. Her life is mundane - she now lacks the thing that made her, her. However, the simple sight of a ballerina mug triggers a false memory of her successfully acing the initial audition, going on to become a successful dancer. However, we are blasted back into reality when her next client is waiting on zoom.
The majority of the short revolves around a dramatic ballet dance sequence, so a trained and highly skilled dancer is required.
Why: Now more than ever the importance of our industry needs to be highlighted. By making this film I want to show the importance of the arts and its role within society. It is what makes people who they are. The arts are important, needed and are viable. I also wanted to make a film which addressed the world we are currently living in, and the treatment towards the industry (particularly by the government and non-creatives). The emphasis is on how Ellie's passion is part of her and who she is, and by retraining in another, more ‘viable’ job she has lost a part of her and the essence of who she is.
I am a highly-experienced film student and training producer. My BA Degree is in Film Studies, and I have worked on numerous short films, and have been a runner.
The project is my Masters Degree final film, and I intend to enter the film into festivals and will release it online. I am intending on making a film of scale with a high level of focus on production design.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS / SELF-TAPES: What to include: At the beginning of the video please state your name, age, your experience, a little bit about your background, your availability and a little on your interest in this project. Here, it is important for us to hear why the arts industry matters to YOU, and why you think it’s important and needed.
MONOLOGUES FOR THE SELF-TAPE WILL BE SENT.

She is extremely open-minded and friendly, and is passionate about people following their dreams.
