“Jasmine, George and Gloria”
3 Actors (2 male and 1 female) required for lead roles in an artist’s experimental surreal short film of a domestic drama set at a dinner. The screenplay addresses themes of repressed desire, power/domination and subservience/exploitation, magic, power and global history.

Casting on Friday and Saturday 20th and 21st February at my studio in Bermondsey, London SE1. There will be a half day rehearsal the following week and then filming will be one day in the first week of March (3,4 or 5th) also in my Bermondsey studio.

This is a low budget, non-commercial production destined for screening in an art exhibition, possibly as part of a video installation. It should be good fun and good experience for all involved and I will be able to give you a copy of the completed scene. I can afford to pay a low but reasonable fee. Professional and amateur actors considered.

Jasmine
You will need to be male, capable of middle-aged playing range and preferably have male pattern baldness. Partial nudity is required for this role. Any ethnicity/nationality is fine.
Jasmine is a balding male transvestite. Middle aged, highly intelligent but does not have strong confidence. An Emperor Claudius type character who conceals his intelligence through a subservient and slightly inept outward demeanour. He works for George and Gloria as a waiter/butler/housemaid. He is of indeterminate ethnicity but from an underdeveloped country and is in the UK illegally. Jasmine is conscious of George’s attraction to him and though the feeling is not reciprocated, Jasmine encourages it as a possible strategy to improve his position. Jasmine is superstitious and believes in magic.

Gloria
You will need to be capable of playing a white British middle class woman in her early 30s.

Gloria is the young, beautiful, dominant and dominating wife of George. She not only dominates George but tries to influence the outside world by directing him how to run his multinational technology company. Where George’s bigotry is unwitting, Gloria’s is entirely conscious. She is rational in a cold and calculating way and is an exemplar of the stiff upper lip English stereotype. Her rational exterior is occasionally broken by her strong and aggressive sexuality which she is sometimes unable to keep under control. Gloria has a secret buried somewhere in her past of which she is deeply ashamed.

George
You will need to be capable of playing a middle aged white British upper middle class male, and preferably have male pattern baldness.

George is the very English, upper middle class, middle aged, balding, bumbling, henpecked husband of Gloria. He is CEO of a large multinational company, a job he ended up with through family connections, not merit. Brought up with the idea that British is best and that much of the rest of the world is made up of uncivilised primitives, he is unwittingly ethnocentric and slightly bigoted. Though George longs to escape from Gloria, he is totally dependent upon her. His longing for escape, and unconscious sexual desires are expressed through his strong attraction to the exotic Jasmine.
