Employment History & Experience

In her ten years working as a journalist, Amy Hitchcock spent five years reporting and presenting BBC Radio, two years pre-interviewing some of the world’s biggest stars for Michael Parkinson as his Associate Producer at ITV, and nearly three years producing and reporting Entertainment for Sky News as the department's Deputy Editor.

As a reporter for Sky News she has covered theatre, music and film; interviewing celebrities such as Paul Weller, Whoopi Goldberg and Bob Hoskins.

At BBC Radio Leeds Amy reported on stories as diverse as the Queen’s visit and September 11th, presented a live daily slot ‘Amy in the City’, and wrote and presented news bulletins.

At BBC Radio Berkshire she presented programmes, produced big events including Children in Need, and reported on the Ufton Nervet Rail crash – a story that won the station a Sony Award.

A career highlight was producing the Oscars for Sky News in 2009 and 2010, one of her toughest assignments was covering the breaking news that Michael Jackson had died, and the most surreal moment was standing on the roof of the O2 Arena with Jon Bon Jovi playing live on Sky News with a helicopter swooping above.

Naomi Campbell is one of the many exclusives she has scooped for Sky News, and she has been asked to produce big stories for the channel including the Boyzone exclusive on Stephen Gately’s death, and the exclusive with the Suffolk murderer’s partner.

Amy spent the 2010 Election Campaign charming politicians, punters and protesters as she travelled the country producing Kay Burley’s outside broadcasts and debates.

It isn’t all glamour though; she writes her own scripts, organises logistics including budgets, sources footage, edits packages and frequently dons thermals to hang around on red carpets for hours on end!

Aside from work, she loves to travel: Best bits include taking the Trans-Siberian Express though Russia, sleeping in the Gobi desert in Mongolia, studying Kung Fu in China, helping in an orphanage in Vietnam, getting engaged in Brazil, and starring in a Bollywood film in India!
