Tony Wright initially started out as an actor but for the past two years he presented the Real Radio Breakfast Show across Wales with his co host Angela Jay. Tony has been presenting on radio for over 20 years, for ten of those years he presented the Capital Gold breakfast show. He has also presented shows for Red Dragon FM, BBC Radio Bristol, and BBC Radio Gwent. Tonys radio work has taken him all over the world and he has presented shows live from the USA and Europe. He has also co-presented with the radio legend Tony Blackburn. Tony has met many people through his work but his bigest thrill was meeting Her Majesty The Queen at Buckingham Palace where Her Majesty presented him with an MBE for services to charity in 2006.
Early 2008 Tony was nominated for the title of Welsh Radio Presenter of the Year. Tony is no stranger to awards in 2003 he was named as ‘Welsh Radio Presenter of the Year‘ This very prestigious award had been voted for by readers of the radio industry magazine, X-Trax. The previous year he won a silver award in the same category. Past awards and nominations include Personality of the Year, and Best Radio Presenter of the Year.
Tony initially started out as an actor training at a local drama college. On completing the course he quickly found work with various companies and his TV credits include The X Factor (introduction on opening credits), Channel Fours Dispatches, T4s Relentless, Casualty, The House of Elliot, The Old Devils, The Jazz Detective and Up For It.
His theatre credits include The Royal Hunt of the Sun (Domingo), Death of a Salesman (Happy), The Deep Blue Sea (Freddie), Cabaret (Cliff) , and West Side Story (Tony).
Tony also has vast experience of pantomime having completed five consecutive pantomimes at the New Theatre, Cardiff having over the years starring alongside John Inman, Danny La Rue and Paul Nicholas in Aladdin (Emperor of China/Scout Leader), Cinderella (Ugly Sister), and Peter Pan (Starkey). In 2006 he starred alongside Dr Who and Torchwood star John Barrowman in Jack and the Beanstalk, in which Tony played his mother! In 2007 he played the part of Chambers alongside Lesley Joseph in Snow White. 2008 saw Tony at the Grand Pavillion Theatre in Porthcawl as Widow Twankey in Aladin, he returned by popular demand to Porthcawl last year play Dame Dorothy Do It in Beauty and the Beast, which Tony was delighted about.
He has compered various shows throughout the UK, appearing with a variety of singers and bands and has also performed at venues such as Cardiff Castle, Cardiff International Arena he has also supported international singing star Iris Williams in her Gala concert at St David’s Hall. Recently Tony narrated the Beach Boys Story for a show called ‘Wouldn’t it be Nice‘ at the Riverfront Theatre.
